FOR almost a year this group of young people have been learning how to stay safe in the sea and rescue others.
Aged between eight and 14, they have been working towards their Rookie Lifeguard award which covers water safety, rescue, self rescue and emergency response techniques.

The aim is to give them lifesaving skills, increase their own swimming comp
etence, develop survival skills, confidence, initiative and teamwork.

Paul Groves, customer services officer at Bridlington's Leisure World, who presented the Rookies with their certificates, said: "The group has been so committed and done so well to learn and understand some demanding lifesaving skills."

He said Leisure World was currently taking names for the next course after the summer holidays.

Anyone interested in joining the next session should ring Leisure World on 606715.

The latest successful group who have passed the final level four examination were assessed by Paul Groves and Ali Ward to gain their recognised life support qualification.

A new Rookie lifeguard course will start in December this year.

Anyone interested can contact Leisure World on 606715.
