EASTER is just around the corner and a group of cub scouts are 'eggcited' about some new arrivals.
The 1st Bridlington Cub Scouts were given a batch of eggs – which are due to hatch on Easter Sunday – as thanks for helping to clear an allotment of rubbish.
The group headed to Hilderthorpe Allotments to offer their services.
One big task they took on was to clear a corner of the allotments which fly-tippers had used to dump their rubbish.
David Butland, scout leader, said: "A new group of tenants want to start cultivating the land, but found the junk more than they wanted to deal with.
"The 1st Bridlington Cub Scouts wanted to find something useful to do that they could do well, and help their local community. A perfect match."
While clearing up, the cub scouts found a bath, which someone had dumped, and they sunk it in the ground to make a pond for frogs.
Mr Butland said: "At the end of the morning they went across to find that someone had over 20 eggs that needed to be hatched.
"I had an incubator, so one of the cubs took the eggs home to see whether anything will come of them."
The eggs are currently being looked after by cub Thomas Nixon-Fozard. If and when they do hatch, they will be fostered to other cubs' homes until they are able to fend for themselves outdoors.
After a morning spent at the allotments, the scouts walked along the footpath to Bessingby, across the fields, along the path over the railway line, and down to the beach for packed lunches.
Mr Butland said: "The weather was ideal for organising a quick mini-Olympics before walking back to Bridlington, tired and happy.
"You have to be tough to be a 1st Bridlington Cub Scout."
