HE never fails to pull in the crowds.
Irish singer Daniel O'Donnell has an army of fans all over the globe – and Bridlington is no different. He has performed at the Spa many times and tickets are always snapped up quickly.

Daniel spoke to Free Press reporter John Edwards earlier this year, from his holiday home in sunny Tenerife – just before he hit the golf course – to talk about his memories of the Spa complex.

"In the early days we used to do shows in the smaller theatre. I remember we had great nights there and we always wondered if we should move to the bigger hall.

"We did and we've always had a wonderful atmosphere in the bigger hall. We have been many, many times.

"I can see every bit of the theatre, it has a very royal feel to it, with the balcony around it. Although the hall held quite a lot of people, they never felt too far away from you. Everybody was close because it was very wide, rather than long," said Daniel.

His tours mean brief one-night stops in a variety of towns and cities but he said he has had the chance to wander round Bridlington in the past. "It is always a very friendly place and the people who come to our shows always seem to make a weekend of it, or stay a couple of nights in Bridlington.

"We would stay there ourselves when we were playing and it's such a lovely area. I remember going on the fairground rides, playing bowling, having a game of golf and going to church in Bridlington.

"I'm sure we will be back, not this year but maybe the following year when we are touring."
