BOOZERS on Bridlington's streets are being targeted by the council as new signs aim to highlight the No Drinking Zones in the town centre.
The police have powers to arrest anyone caught drinking in the restricted zones and can confiscate or dispose of any alcohol being consumed in them.

The new signs will make it clearer to everyone where the zones are and should leave people with no excuse for drinking in restricted areas.

Laura Lever, safe communities officer for East Riding of Yorkshire Council, said: "We work closely with the police and local community to prevent alcohol related disorder.

"Drinking alcohol in these areas should not take place and action is now being taken against people who ignore the No Drinking Zones."

Town centre streets Promenade, Esplanade, King Street, the Spa Promenade, Prince Street and Harbour Road are among those designated as No Drinking Zones.

Head of Bridlington police Insp Steve Jackson said: "It is important that if the problems of alcohol related anti-social behaviour and violent crime are to be reduced everyone is aware of the areas where alcohol cannot be consumed in public."

PCSO Richard Bastiman hopes the town will be safer if people take notice of the new signs.

"We want to make it clear that drinking on those streets won't be tolerated," he said.
