DIAMONDS are forever and so are some marriages as Bempton couple Vic and Eileen Dooks are celebrating 60 happy years together.
Childhood friends Vic, now 86, and Eileen, 83, wed at St Andrew's Church in Middleton-on-the-Wolds on May 1, 1948 and have lived most of their lives in Bempton, since moving there in 1954.

Vic worked on the railways all his life and was a station master at Bempton right up until his retirement.

The couple have seen plenty of changes in the village.

"It has changed since we first came here," said Eileen.

"We've seen many new people come and go, but unfortunately many of our friends are no longer here."

Eileen still plays the organ at Speeton Church as she has done for the last 17 years.

They did not have a big party to celebrate their diamond wedding anniversary but friends and family dropped in to congratulate them throughout the day.
