BRIDLINGTON songstress Shirley Higton will be taking to the airwaves to showcase a new song inspired by the nudists on Fraisthorpe Beach.
The singer/songwriter has been invited to perform on the Late Show with Shourjo Sarkar at Radio Leeds on Tuesday March 2.

The show begins at 10pm and Shirley will be on air from about 10.30pm for roughly an hour.

Shirley said she is looking forward to broadcasting her nudity-inspired song to the people of Yorkshire.

"On my last visit one of the songs I performed dealt with the problems with wheel clamping firms and it created a lot of interest," she said.

"On this occasion as summer is on the horizon I will be using the theme of nudity.

"As we know the Fraisthorpe beach issue has been an on-going debate and as the warmer weather approaches I'm sure the topic will rise again. 'To bare or not to bare' that is the question!"

The show is based in Leeds but it is also broadcast in York, Humberside and Sheffield.

For the Bridlington area you can tune in on Radio Humberside 95.9fm and the show can also be listened to on-line.

An Anthem for the Naturist Beach at Fraisthorpe.

Shirley Higton is so right when she says that with the good weather just around the corner, the issue of the naturist use of the beach at Fraisthorpe will again become a topic of discussion (forget the first cuckoo, I always say that this topic is the first sign of spring!)

Naturists have been using the beach since before the Second World War and indeed at one time it was recognised as an "official" nude beach by the Council. Though that status was withdrawn, nude use continued as it does to this day (or perhaps, looking out of the window as I write, to this coming summer and summers to come!) and will so continue for the future. "Official" status or lack of it has no weight in criminal law in respect of the traditional nude use of a beach or other area.

Sadly the East Riding Council have erected notices misleadingly inferring that nudity on the beach is illegal and juxtaposing that wording with comments about public indecency. This is both hurtful and insulting to naturists who use the beach and misleading to the Textile public who could be lead into thinking that nude use is indeed illegal (which it is not!) This has the potential to cause conflict and in that instance the East Riding Council would be to blame and leave themselves open potentially to prosecution under the Public Order Act.

They have indeed been criticised by Humberside Police who are clear that nude use of the beach per se is not illegal. They make the point too that they will support all members of the public in prosecuting criminal behaviour and will investigate complaints by all members of the public, including naturists, for any such acts.

Shirley, naurists will be using the lovely beach at Fraisthorpe on the sunny days we anticipate and maybe you could join us and sing us your song ! A new anthem indeed for the Naturist Beach at Fraisthorpe !

Our regular beach day is set for Sunday the 20th June 2010. Sunshine booked in adv

Let the nudists have their bit of beach at Fraisthorpe. Just so long as they stay on it and keep away from us "decent folk" and our families on the south beach and Barmston.
