NOT only are they among the newest hotel owners in Bridlington, Pete and Jacquie Corbett are also among the youngest.
Aged 32 and 36, they have sold their six-bedroomed house in Cleckheaton and traded it in for the Edelweiss Hotel in Windsor Crescent.

They now only have two bedrooms for their own accommodation, but 11 en-suite rooms for their guests.

And they have never run a hotel before.

“It is a risk and it has been daunting but we are learning something new every day.

“We came over to see friends, quite liked Bridlington, and started thinking about the idea a year ago.

“Bridlington is really tidy, well looked after, everybody seems friendly, relaxed and chilled out and people have good manners.”

Will they still feel relaxed and chilled out in the peak of summer when they have to cook breakfasts for 20 guests, clean the rooms and then run the bar, complete with draught beer, at night. And look after their 17-year-old and 14-year-old twins.

“I was a workaholic, so we should get more time as a family. And we are getting paid to do what you would normally do at home, cooking and cleaning.

“We’ll get more time together now than we did. Sometimes I wouldn’t get home until 6pm and Pete would be in bed because he was working nights.”

Pete was a part-time fork-lift truck driver and Jacquie worked as an administrator, which she will continue to do for two days a week in Hull.

So far they have welcomed guests from as far afield as Liverpool and Scotland and the USA darts team are due to return later this year.
