A BRIDLINGTON butchers has been awarded a 5-star food hygiene award.

Crosiers butchers, on High Street, were awarded the rating after inspection by East Riding of Yorkshire Council environmental health officers.

Owner Clive Ibson, who has run the business for the last ten years, said that he believes the award makes them the “only butchers in town to have received 5 stars”.

“We have worked hard and invested a lot of money in the business, so it is nice to see that we have received 5 stars,” said Clive, 51, who works alongside Martin Cockerill, 47, at the Old Town butchers. “We have fitted new stainless steel equipment to pass the inspection, as it is difficult to achieve 5 stars when you are selling raw produce and cooked meats.”

Clive has worked for Crosiers for 18 years, after he and Martin trained together as youngsters at Pygotts, formerly of Promenade.

“We’ve been in butchery for 65 years between us, and this award shows we both still have it.”
