A SECOND hospital protest march is being planned and the aim is to make it bigger and better than last year.
Make a note in your diaries -– Saturday, July 26 is the date when Bridlington has been challenged to hit the streets and show how much it wants to save services.

More than 3,000 people took part in a demonstration but campaigner Mick Pilling has t
hrown down the gauntlet and said he wants to double that number this time around.

And he hopes that among the crowds will be Professor Sir George Alberti, the man whose idea it is to close the cardiac unit at Bridlington Hospital.

Mr Pilling has invited the medical expert to address the crowds, and he also wants local trust managers to face the music too.

"We are asking that the whole town of Bridlington, and the surrounding areas, take part in this march. please attend and show your solidarity.

"We must all fight for our hospital."

The date has been chosen because proposed cuts to acute medical services at the hospital will be just weeks away and at that time the independent panel which will make a recommendation to the Government about whether the cuts should go ahead will be collating its findings.

The end of July also marks the start of the high summer season and it is hoped tourists will add their support.

Protestors will march the same route as last time, from Bridlington Business Centre, up Bessingby Road and into the hospital grounds, setting off at 10am.

Police have raised no objections and one carriageway of Bessingby Road is likely to be closed off for half an hour while the march proceeds to the hospital.

Mr Pilling said he will also be inviting councillors and several local MPs, including Greg Knight. Trade union Unite has also pledged its support.
