The council's consultants' research about the marina does not make much sense.
At best, yachting is a six-month market (May to September) so the 30 jobs would only be seasonal.

They have not said why 80 boats from Hull or 50% of boats from Scarborough and Whitby would come to Bridlington.

From what I can gather, boats are removed from the water and put into storage over the winter months so the 320 berths are only viable for six months. Where this £900,000 estimate comes from I don't know.

I would expect that to build this marina would cost millions of pounds of tax and rate-payers' money yet only a small minority of people in Bridlington will benefit.

If the council can afford this kind of project, then why not pump this money into Bridlington Hospital and put it in a position to help everyone before the NHS trust closes it down?

Mrs H Darby,
West Street, Bridlington.

What an ill informed letter, the only reason we take our boats out of the water or as in my case move them to Grimsby is because Bridlington harbour in its current state is untenable in the winter.

I move my boat to Grimsby where there is a proper marina with pontoons, electricity and water and 24 hour access to the boat, I don't want to do this as I have to pay for 12 months mooring in Brid, and I have to pay for 6 months in Grimsby.
I come to Brid every weekend in the summer and spend a week in August, I spend money in the shops, the cafes and restaurants and on car parking, as do my crew and my friends.

An all year round marina in Bridlington will transform the place to an all year round resort, providing jobs not just in the marina but throughout the town, look at Lowestoft, I visited this year on my way back from the RTI race, a few years ago it had one Marina now there are two and a third on the way, the seafront has been rejuvenated and the town appears to be on the up, and it was at least as depressed as Brid, in 2004.

So bring it on as fast as possible for the sake of everyone in Brid.
