Sully returns to Hull

AFTER last year's sell-out performances of Sully at Hull Truck Theatre I went along to see what I had been missing.

The moving play focuses on the life of rugby player Clive Sullivan who scored more than 350 tries for both Hull FC and Hull Kingston Rovers.

The black Welshman had a colourful career but unfortunately it ended in sadness as the one thing he did lose was the fight against cancer aged 42.

Through the play you could tell he was a man who the people of Hull looked up to, despite which team they supported they knew this kind hearted family man had done a lot for Hull.

One of his biggest achievements was being the last British captain to lift the rugby league world cup.

To keep his memory alive one of the main roads into Hull is named after him - the Clive Sullivan Way and strangely enough this is where the play is set.

With the help of Max (Lee Green) and Chelle (Amy Thompson) Sully (Fidel Nanton) tells his life story from his family life in Wales to his new adopted home of Hull.

This touching play is accompanied by film footage of the rugby player's life and take along the tissues because you may shed a tear at the end.

It runs until May 26 and for more information call the box office on 01482 323638.
