Is the Spa's panto good? Oh yes it is!

YOUNGSTERS flocked to the Spa on Monday for the opening performance of Cinderella - the first pantomime to be staged at the venue for three years.

The children were delighted by the family show, which boasts showbiz couple Paul Daniels and Debbie McGee in leading roles, and we asked Flamborough Primary School pupils for their views on the performance.

10-year-old Sophie Holdsworth said: "I liked it when the real ponies came on the stage, I also liked the ugly sisters. It was quite funny and I liked the happy ending, I'd go and see it again."

Fellow year six pupil, Megan Ellerker also enjoyed the pantomime.

"It was really funny and some of the magic tricks were good," she said, "I liked the fairy godmother because every time she came onstage there was a loud pop!"

The show was also a big hit with the boys from Flamborough Primary School.

Josh Wood, 10, said: "I really enjoyed watching the pantomime and my favourite character was Buttons because he was really funny. The best part about it was the bit when the ugly sisters came down the aisle and scared my teacher, Mrs Wardell!"

Fellow pupil Luke Dixon, 10, agreed that Buttons, played by Terry Gleed, was the star of the show and said that he enjoyed the ballroom sequence which reminded him of Strictly Come Dancing.

Ruth Puckering, marketing officer for the Spa, said that the pantomime has got off to a flying start.

"Cinderella has kicked off brilliantly with a series of sold-out performances for schools," she said. "The atmosphere for the first show on Monday was great, with lots of audience participation! From the song and dance routines to the costumes and scenery it's a first class panto to be back in the Spa Theatre."

Cinderella runs until Sunday, January 4, tickets cost between 9.50 and 17 and are available from the Spa box office on 678258.
