‘Starfire’ musical firework spectaculars are scheduled to light up the skies above Scarborough’s South Bay on three consecutive Saturday nights; 31 August and 7 and 14 September. Each spectacular will start at 9.30pm.
What will make Starfire unique will be the use of local radio station, Yorkshire Coast Radio, to provide musical accompaniment to the displays. By tuning into 96.2FM residents and visitors to the area will be able to enjoy a full blown musical firework experience.
The 7 September spectacular will also mark the finale to the annual Honda Gold Wing Light Parade, one of Scarborough’s busiest and most popular events.
The spectaculars have been funded by members of the South Bay Traders Associations with support from Welcome to Yorkshire and Scarborough Borough Council’s tourism team.
John Senior, Chairman of South Bay Traders Association said:
“This is an opportunity for traders to put something back into the town and we hope that local residents and visitors will pop down to enjoy the free displays. We are also very excited to be working with our local radio station and understand that our attempt to coordinate radio and a fireworks display has not been tried before!”
Chris Sigsworth, Managing Director of Yorkshire Coast Radio added:
“The Starfire events will be enjoyed by thousands of locals and visitors and we are looking forward to broadcasting the musical accompaniment. This is a great initiative by the South Bay Traders Association and we are very happy to be working in partnership with them.”
Janet Deacon, Area Director for Welcome to Yorkshire said:
“We are delighted to be supporting the South Bay Traders Association in this innovative initiative. The events will not only provide visitors to the town with an additional free attraction but will also hopefully draw in more visitors from other towns and villages in the area.”
