A THEATRE festival sponsored by a Bridlington firm is set to begin next week.

For four weeks from Tuesday, the Stephen Joseph Theatre in Scarborough will host the first ReachOut Festival – a packed programme of events celebrating the work of the theatre’s OutReach department.

The inaugural festival is sponsored by Bridlington chartered accountants, tax and business advisors Lloyd Dowson.

Last Saturday chairman David Dowson and relationship officer Vanessa Rowbottom visited the theatre to watch its youth group rehearsing scenes from Don’t Feed The Animals – which will be performed as part of the festival on February 22 and 23.

The festival also includes a favourite West End musical performed by a local secondary school, a creative schools festival and a young people’s festival, music, drama days, and workshops.

Mr Dowson said: “Young people are our future and we want to show our support of them and our continued support for the Scarborough community.”

The OutReach department works with, in and for the local community, encouraging people to engage with the work of the theatre through work experience, placements, projects, courses and tours of the theatre.

It is committed to offering everyone the opportunity to get involved in one of its creative projects and to develop new skills, make friends and have fun along the way.
