A SPECTACULAR show of fireworks was enjoyed by the crowds which gathered to celebrate bonfire night.

Bridlington Lions organised this year’s display at Limekiln Lane on Saturday November 3. Hundreds of people attended to watch the £4,000 worth of fireworks light up the night sky and also enjoyed food and refreshments.

Bridlington Town Mayor Councillor Michael Charlesworth was in attendance to help light the bonfire.

Eileen Sunderland, vice president of Bridlington Lions, said: “It was a great night. The people I spoke to when they were leaving on the Saturday night said what a wonderful night it had been.

“The mayor as we all know has not been well, we were delighted to see him after his time in hospital and the aftermath of his being in hospital, and he stayed right to the end.

“All in all we thought it went very well.”

Coun Charlesworth said: “It was very exciting, it was a good crowd and it ended up very well, a wonderful display.

“I think the town owes a lot to the Lions and they do it all voluntarily.”

On the same night, bonfire celebrations in Kilham were also entertaining crowds of spectators on the village’s playing field.

The Kilham Playing Field Association along with other volunteers from the village organised the display which attracted over 500 people and raised £1,500 for the playing field funds.

Mark Buckle of the association said: “It was a damp start and we had two hours of rain before the bonfire, so we were expecting hardly anyone.

“It has been going for three years running and it is getting better each time.”
