All aboard for seabird cruises
THE RSPB is giving people the opportunity to watch some of the world's most amazing seafarers from on board a special RSPB seabird cruise.
Skua and Shearwater Cruises sail from Bridlington Harbour on selected weekends throughout September and October and the trips give passengers a chance to see mysterious seabirds rarely glimpsed from the shore.
The cruises offer the chance to see the fascinating seabirds that migrate off the Yorkshire coast in late summer.
Birds from as far afield as the Russian Arctic and South America pass over the North Sea on their migration voyages.
Trevor Charlton, RSPB Bempton Cliffs reserve warden, said: "These exciting trips aboard the Yorkshire Belle are now a major draw for birdwatchers from across the country.
"There are few better ways to see these fantastic seabirds, many of which only ever pass our shores on their annual migrations."
Last year, more than 1,600 people set sail on RSPB Seabird Cruises.
Passengers come from all over the country hoping to see globe-trotting birds such as Pomarine skuas from northern Russia and Sooty Shearwaters from the oceans of the South Atlantic.
Other highlights of the trips include close-up views of Arctic skuas, puffins, gannets, guillemots and many other birds.
RSPB experts will be on board to answer questions and point out what is to be seen.
Advance booking is advisable.
Tickets cost 9.50 for adults and 4.50 for children.
