YOUR correspondent John Verity, from Nelson, Lancashire, asked in for an answer from someone from the town council to tell him why car parking charges in the town are so high.
They are high because they are imposed by East Riding of Yorkshire Council, together with controlled parking zones, 20mph speed limits and humps in the town centre, a once free large car park no longer being free (it now costs £5 per day) and a propo
sal to site a park and ride for visitors in a totally wrong location.
All the aforementioned have been opposed by the town council.
We read that the increase in parking charges is to supplement the council cax to avoid East Riding council being capped by the Government.
The town council office receives many complaints from visitors about the town for which the council is not responsible.
It is a toss up who destroys Bridlington's visitor attraction first, East Riding council or, as we are told, the rising North Sea.
