Unit closure is disgraceful

I FEEL the proposed closure of Bridlington Hospital's maternity unit is disgraceful.
I have been extremely lucky in being able to give birth to my daughter at Bridlington in May 2006.

From the moment I arrived, to the moment I left, I had two midwives' undivided attention for approximately eight hours.

My whole experience of pr
egnancy and childbirth was a dream because of the excellent experienced service I received from the
maternity unit and the staff who work there.

My extreme gratitude goes to Wendy Beagles, who is absolutely fantastic, and whom I recommend to anyone opting for a birth at Bridlington Hospital, and to Lynne Porebski.

The service I received after my daughter was born was also excellent and, for which, I was extremely grateful for, particularly on the weekends when doubts and worry sometimes took over.

This unit is totally committed to providing the very best service possible to mums to be and new mums, they are totally undervalued and under appreciated.

Scarborough maternity and special care unit does not provide the quality of service Bridlington's maternity unit does and, in my opinion, never will.

I feel absolutely appalled that the NHS is even considering closing this fantastic and extremely valuable service from our area.

Should I be lucky enough to have a second child, I will definitely NOT be giving birth at Scarborough. Instead I will be opting for a home birth if Bridlington is closed.

I could say a lot more, as I feel so strongly that closing the unit would be a huge mistake, but I hope I have made some of my feelings known.
