Surely respect for our surroundings begins with the parents
modelling how to take care of and treat all living things, whether they be human, animal or plant life?
As a committed teacher of Personal, Social and Health Education, this respect is
at the heart of all my lessons, but all I can do is provide the arena for young people to discuss such issues as taking care of the environment.
It is then up to the individual to make the appropriate choice.
Stop putting the blame on teachers – most of them do a wonderful job in difficult circumstances.

Linda replies: In an ideal world initial learning and appreciation of our planet and respect for others should begin in the home by good parenting skills and teaching children right from wrong.
Unfortunately this does not always happen and must often make life difficult for teachers.
Even when parents have taught their children correctly, some youngsters are easily led down the wrong road by peer pressure.
