Old Potties (so named after the two Miss Potts sisters who ran the school) came from York, Leeds, Grantham and Kendal, among various other parts of the country to attend the event, and emails were received from others in Canada, Australia, America and New Zealand.
A special guest at the reunion was Paul Potts, who is the great nephew of the Misses Potts.
The group met at Cliffe House Nursery, which the present owner/headmistress, Mrs Warcup, kindly opened especially for the former pupils, who spent a couple of hours there, followed by an afternoon of reminiscing at the Expanse Hotel.
The former pupils were all ages, varying from people who attended the school when it first opened, through the war years and on to the late 1950s, when the fees were £6 per term.
Dawn, who was a milk monitor at the school, has lots of memories of her time spent at Cliffe House Nursery.
She recalled having small bottles of milk with a Blue Ribband biscuit for break time, and doing exercises in the garden and nature study on the beach and in public gardens.
She said Miss Lucy Potts had very long hair which she wore wound round and round like telephone ear headphones.
The girls remembered having to stand outside in the garden if they had been naughty, whilst the boys got a rap on the knuckles with a ruler, but not by Miss Jane – she sent the boys to Miss Lucy, who was stricter.
Dawn said: "It was a wonderful school, which gave us all a great start as by the time we went to primary school, we could all read and write and we owe the Misses Potts a great deal of respect, admiration and affection."
