YOU WOULD expect an MP's cat to be something a bit special – and it is not surprising Bridlington MP Greg Knight has one, like himself, a bit larger than life.
Tommie is a Maine Coon breed, larger than the average cat, which Mr Knight got from a rescue centre.A regular campaigner on animal rights,
Mr Knight has just slammed owners who dump their pets.
His comments came after the RSPCA said it had rescued 23% more abandoned pets in 2007 than the year before.
The charity is worried the trend could continue. It saved almost 150,000 animals last year.
Mr Knight said: "The number of dumped pets is totally unacceptable.
"Families should not buy pets unless they are absolutely committed to looking after them."
Mr Knight also warned owners that abandoning pets was a
criminal offence.
