Brown bins

I have been following the response to the council's ideas for the bin collections with interest and feel a little frustrated at the people who are already complaining and they haven't even tried it yet.
We live in the area that has been used to experiment with the brown bins and my honest opinion is that they have been a great success.

Initially, our household was not happy at the thought of going to fortnightly green bin collections but as t
ime passed we really started to think about what we were putting in the bin.

Needless to say we started using the blue bin more and, as we have a reasonably-sized garden, it was brilliant having the brown bin to drop the weeds and grass cuttings into.

Do the people who say they don't want a brown bin realise they can use it for cardboard as well as garden waste?

Once you start using the bin for that purpose, you begin to realise just how many items come packaged in cardboard.

This would normally go in your green bin, probably inside a bin liner that takes for ever to decompose.

And if that doesn't convince you, then you can ask the council to take it back.

I'm not one of those people that preaches environmental issues.

Part of my job means I have to drive in excess of 500 miles a week but if I can do my bit to help make up for it then it makes me feel a little better.
