Long Riston U70
A GOAL apiece from Taylor Barber and Callum Cobden was enough for Burlington Jackdaws to overcome a plucky Long Riston side.
Lloyd Brodie cleared the Riston striker’s goalbound shot before Barber struck from an acute angle after
good work by Harry Boreman on the right flank. Then seconds later a bursting run and quick - fire shot from Cobden doubled the advantage. Boreman and Robert Dean were particularly impressive, while Cobden continued his prolific form and proved to be the difference between the two sides. Jackdaws had lots of possession, but were wasteful in front of goal.
Ashley Mells forced an early save from the Riston keeper, and Barber shot wide after a Riston defensive mix up. Jackdaws went ahead when Boreman’s surging run, caused panic amongst the Riston defence, and laid the ball square into the path of the deadly Barber who finished with aplomb.
Seconds later Jackdaws doubled their advantage when Cobden won the ball from the re –start and struck the ball earlier, with the Riston keeper able to stand and watch as the ball nestled into the corner of the net. At half time Jackdaws made five changes with Lewis Hill, William Webb, Harry Connolly, Jack Cockeril and Thomas McEwen entering the action.
The visitors returned from the break with added vigour and could have equalised, but for brave defending from Webb and Cockeril, and a couple of smart stops from Miller in the Jackdaws goal. McEwen and Hill then started to get a foothold in the game, and picking the ball up from deep they both set out on jinking runs, beating players and overworking the Riston keeper. Moments before the end the hardworking Connolly had a chance when put through by Webb but he shot wide as Jackdaws held on for a good victory.

Tickton U71
A Thomas McEwen opportunist strike earned Jackdaws a hard working point against a strong Tickton side. Tickton had gone ahead when the forward latched onto a through ball and slotted past keeper Miller. Jackdaws started slowly but came back to dominate in the second half. McEwen was twice brilliantly denied by the Tickton keeper, but soon found the net, converting the rebound after the keeper parried Boreman’s shot.
The attacking trio of Hill, Mells and Connolly found the going tough initially but, continued to press and work for the team and gradually improved as the half went on. Tickton continued to threaten and found the net after 10 minutes when a long ball caught the defence out and the Tickton forward made no mistake, beating the on-rushing Miller.
