Burl’n Jackdaws U72

It was the first-ever outing for the Rhinos team, hosting an experienced and organised Jackdaws on a blustery afternoon.

From the off both sides showed tremendous commitment. It was clear that it was going to be a battle in midfield. Thomas Brackenbury was at the fore, taking the role as General for the Rhinos.

Excellent tackling at the back from James Cawkill and Joshua Wilkins assisted the promising rookie keeper, Joseph Rowbottom to keep his net safe.

With play flowing from end to end it was Jackdaws who took the lead with a well struck close range shot.

The Rhinos immediately re-organised with excellent passing between the upfront duo of Sam Flowerdew and Marcus Clough who carved an opening for Philip Parker to fire home from an acute angle to level the scores at one apiece.

The game was on a knife edge when a slick passing movement by the Jackdaws was ended prematurely, a strong block by a Rhinos defender was judged to have connected with the hand resulting in a penalty.

The ball was placed on the spot by referee Cawkill and a powerful low driving shot left the Rhinos keeper with little chance.

The Rhinos troops rallied, Danial King entered the game with a tremendous first tackle.

Bradley Marshall was covering acres of ground from midfield, his work rate first class. This effort was finally rewarded, as the pressure inside Jackdaws’ half paid off.

It was left to the robust Thomas Brackenbury to drive home a coolly taken low struck first time shot to claim the second equaliser of the game to make it two apiece.

That was how the game was to finish. Well done to both sides, fantastic commitment from all.

In the second game the Jackdaws experience came to the fore. Hard work from the whole team allowed them to take a 2-0 victory. Well done.

Men of the matches were awarded to Thomas Brackenbury and Marcus Clough.

Rangers Rockets U101

Hunmanby Juniors U102

ROCKETS entertained a Hunmanby side who had already won the league with two matches still to play.

Starting with some impressive passing, Rockets soon had Hunmanby on the back foot with close shots from both Danny Parker and Lennon Organ. A pattern of play was soon established with Rockets doing the bulk of the attacking with Hunmanby playing on the break.

One of these breaks led to the opening goal, which was a fine individual effort from Hunmanby’s star player, taking on Rockets defence, then shooting low past unlucky keeper Ben Wright. Rockets replied with more pressure, with two corners well taken by Adam Hunt and Lennon Organ producing goalmouth scrambles Hunmanby were fortunate to keep out.
