THE 13th annual Lloyd Dowson Seaside Pro/Am event was held at Bridlington Golf Club last Friday and was once again a resounding success, despite attempts by the weather to put a dampener on the day when rain later in the day made conditions very difficult for the many professional and amateur golfers taking part.
Event organiser Anthony Howarth told the Free Press “The day proved hugely successful and confirmed the events reputation as the largest of it’s kind in the North of England.
“Everybody thoroughly enjoyed the day despite the rain in the afternoon and the quality of the golf played was first class with some fine performances by both professional and amateur golfers.”
In total 57 of Yorkshires finest golf professionals graced the fairways at Bridlington Golf Club and 171 amateurs joined them to make up the four man teams.
The £2,000 first prize for the leading professionals score was won with an excellent score of 67 (5 under par) by Nick Ludwell from Selby GC. He narrowly beat Chris Hanson from Crosland Heath GC by just one shot to get his hands on the £2,000 cheque and the much coveted Bridlington Free Press Seaside Pro/Am trophy.
The Lloyd Dowson Team Trophy was retained by last year’s winning team The Wright Stuff who returned an excellent score of 126 (18 under par) to retain their trophy and take away the excellent prizes and sweepstake up for grabs. The team representing Allsigns & Alphabetti came in second place with local Bridlington GC members Mike Smith (Chairman), Graham Gascoigne and John Hall making the most of home advantage with their in form professional Nick Ludwell. They finished on 129 narrowly beating the Captains Team by just one shot.
The Captains Team consisted of Martin Adams (Vice Captain), Shaun Parker and Darren Land and home professional Anthony Howarth who was delighted to be in the prizes having not hit a golf ball for the past four months.
Unfortunately nobody managed to win the cheque for a £1,000 for a Hole-in-one on the 2nd Hole despite some excellent close efforts.
All the fantastic prizes up for grabs throughout the day were presented to all the winners at the end of day prize presentation by Jayne Manson (Lloyd Dowson Accountants) and Bridlington Golf Club vice-captain Martin Adams
During the prizegiving many people were thanked for helping make the day such a huge success. Those thanked included the catering and bar staff and also the many members at Bridlington Golf Club who helped and generously offered their services throughout the day. The greenstaff were particularly praised for the condition of the course which was in immaculate condition.
Anthony Howarth took the opportunity of thanking all the many companies for sponsoring a hole during the day and in particular the main sponsors of the event Lloyd Dowson Chartered Accountants for their incredible commitment and support over the past six years.
Jayne Manson also had the pleasant duty of presenting the charity cheque to this year’s benefiting recipient “St John Ambulance”. Mr John Thompson (President of St John Ambulance, Bridlington) received a cheque for £1,500.
