BRIDLINGTON Golf Club is hosting the annual Seaside Pro/Am tournament tomorrow – the largest event of its kind in the Yorkshire Professional Golfers' Association calendar
The cream of professional golfers from around the North of England in an attempt to win the leading professional prize of £2,000 and the Seaside Pro-Am trophy, donated by the Bridlington Free Press.
Adrian Ambler from Walton Golf Centre will be hoping to defend the title he lifted last year with an excellent score of 67 (five under par).
Each competing professional will be joined by three amateur golfers and these teams will compete for the team prizes up for grabs and the Lloyd Dowson Team Trophy, presented to the winning team from the 54 competing.
Organisers are delighted to announce local accountancy firm Lloyd Dowson are once again main sponsors, and in addition to their continued generosity a host of other local companies have come forward to help contribute towards the event.
Local professional and organiser Anthony Howarth will be trying to improve on his excellent third place last year with a score of 69, although he is still recovering from a knee operation in January which has kept him out of action for the past four months.
Companies who have kindly sponsored a hole on the day of the event took part in a special sponsors’ day last Friday. This was the fourth year of the sponsors’ day and the pairing representing Yorkshire Bank failed in their bid to make it a hat-trick of wins as an excellent score of 47 points from Andrew Jackson Solicitors took the spoils.
Since 1996 the Seaside Pro/Am has donated in excess of £30,000 to many worthwhile charities and this year the event will be raising money for the St. John Ambulance and the Bridlington Rugby Club minis section.
Money will be raised on the day via many different activities, including a big tombola. Anyone wishing to go along to help support the worthy causes is most welcome.
