LOCAL golfer Lewis Nicholls set a new course record at Bridlington Golf Club when he produced a blistering round in a competition at Belvedere last week.
Lewis carded an incredible score of 66, which was six-under par on the par 72 Belvedere course. The round included five birdies, an eagle and just one bogey. Lewis compiled the score in a midweek medal, which he won by four shots.
Due to alterations made to the course by the addition of new bunkers and trees, this is a new course record and Lewis’s card will be framed and displayed in the clubhouse.
Two weeks ago, the in-form 19 year-old also shot 69 winning the May medal, which coupled with the 66 has lowered his handicap to 1.6 and his aim is to reach scratch by the end of the season.
The club said: “The improved form is just what Lewis deserves as he has been working hard recently with his coach, Ganton’s Gary Brown, and hours of practice with Richard Webster from Bridlington have helped to fine-tune his game.”
Lewis has progressed through the junior ranks in county golf and now represents the East Riding Senior team. They played their first game of the season this month and recorded an away win against Harrogate Union, in which Lewis scored valuable points for his side.
