Reavers of the Vilayet
THE Vilayet Sea is home to many islands, including a number which are havens for bands of buccaneers.
But before the scourge of the pirates some of the islands were home to far darker inhabitants, otherworldly entities worshipped by primitive folk and a few of which have survived down the ages.
The scenario begins with the characters encountering Vahit, a Hyrkanian noble, and a beautiful slave girl Zuleyet in a desert sandstorm west of the Vilayet Sea.
Vahit has discovered the legends relating to a supernatural being and is seeking help to find and use its powers.
The noble enlists the characters' help to find a tomb in the desert which could point the way to an ancient treasure on a mysterious island.
But Vahit is in a race against his elder brother Fuat, a powerful sorceror, and without the aid of the player characters Vahit's cause is likely to be doomed.
If the players are succesful in finding the tomb they must then sail to the isle and brave the many obstacles in their path.
The quest takes the players from the desert wastes to the high seas before concluding on the lost Isle of the Mists, where - amid the jungle and ruins - the object of Vahit's search may finally be discovered.
The players have to overcome Fuat's forces, pirates and the supernatural dangers of the isle.
Reavers of the Vilayet is a 32-page scenario written by Gareth Hanrahan and well-presented with illustrations, maps and extracts from Conan creator Robert E Howard's The Devil In Iron.
At £5 it is great value.
The scenario is well-crafted with a few twists, turns and surprises.
It brings a fascinating area of Howard's world to life and would make a good addition to anyone's Conan game.
