Let the marina good times roll

Thursday August 10 SO we don't need to get council bosses and the harbour commissioners on The Jeremy Kyle Show after all.

According to both sides, they've kissed and made up and the prospects of Bridlington finally getting a marina and modernised harbour look better than "at any time in the past".

As exclusively revealed by the Press Press today, the disappointment of not making it on to a TV show to have a stab at 50million of lottery cash may just be a minor hiccup.

That's because the commissioners "now realise something needs to be done to take the marina forward to benefit Bridlington's regeneration" and are looking at a development which would be outside of as well as inside the existing harbour.

That's want East Riding of Yorkshire Council wants and the commissioners' new plan also includes an area of development land for the council to utilise.

Although 50million from the lottery would have been very nice thank you, the council has 17million set aside for a Bridlington marina and Yorkshire Forward is also likely to chip in with a few millions.

So things are looking rosy.

Okay, some people will still be against any outer-harbour development, and no doubt if it does go ahead there will be problems with traffic, work delays and other setbacks.

But if the commissioners and council can reach an agreement bearing in mind the acrimony there has been in the past then anything is possible and obstacles can be overcome.

So here's to a new marina, supported by the majority of the local population and providing modern facilities for the fishing fleet, and here's to the catalyst for an economic boom for the town.
