Tadcaster5

THIS was, without doubt, a game of two halves with Town starting the stronger of the two teams.

Within minutes of the start Joe Watson scored Town’s first goal after having the ball floated in f
rom a Tom Haxby free kick.

Tadcaster now started to pressurise Town’s rear guard which resulted in their first corner on 26 minutes, but a powerful header by centre back Ash Rimmer cleared the ball to set up a counter attack by Town. Jay Randerson picked the ball up and with his usual fast feet and skilful ball control made a darting run down the right flank only to be mugged by the Tadcaster defence.

Town now had most of the play and pushed Tadcaster backwards at every opportunity, but it took until the stroke of half time before Town put the ball in the back of the net again. Steve Cook took his chance with a humdinger of a shot only to have it palmed out by Tadcaster’s keeper allowing Watson an easy tap in for his and Town’s second goal.

The way that Tadcaster started the second half hinted that they had been given a stern half time talk.

After just five minutes of the restart the referee pulled up with a pulled calf muscle and was replaced by one of his assistants with Town manager Kevin Wardell taking over the flag. On Town’s next attack Wardell flagged for offside with at least two of Town’s players in offside positions but there was no whistle so James Webb ran forward and slotted the ball into the net to make it 3–0. Strong protests to the referee earned two Tadcaster players yellow cards.

The incident unsettled both sides and after a few more yellow cards for innocuous tackles Tadcaster started to take control and quickly brought the scores level at 3 – 3.

Town brought on the fresh legs of George Thompson and Ben Denham replacing Hatto and Randerson.

However Tadcaster were on a roll and went on to net their 4th and 5th goals.

This really was a game of two halves.

Town: Lawson, Haxby, Rimmer, Atkin, Webb, Randerson, Watson, Ditchburn, Hatto, Anderson, Cook.

Subs: Thompson, Denham.

Selby5

For the first 15 minutes of play this was as even a match as you were ever going to see.

The first goal going to Selby on 17 minutes when two Town defenders went for the same ball and clashing with each other letting Selby through and slotting it past the advancing Town keeper Mark Wain

Two minutes later came Selby’s second with Town’s defence once again opening up to let the speedy Selby forwards through. The pressure was now on Town’s youngsters with a reduced squad due to work commitments and transport problems this was going to be a hard night. Saying that they battled back to such effect that brought the score to 2-2 by half time.
